Bathing water quality in Purbeck

In Purbeck 7 beaches are currently sampled for bathing water quality on a weekly basis by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during the summer months (June to September).

The sampling results are then passed on to Purbeck District Council. The Environment Agency will decide each year which beaches are to be tested. Currently these beaches are:

  • Durdle door East

  • Durdle door West

  • Kimmeridge Bay

  • Lulworth Cove

  • Shell Bay North

  • Studland Knoll House

  • Swanage Central

The council make the information available to the public by sending it to the above location where it should be put on notice boards. These notices indicate the bathing water quality (poor, good or excellent) at that particular beach.

Further information including results, can be found on EPA's website (opens in a new window)
