Domestic waste collection in North Dorset
Most properties in North Dorset receive a weekly sack collection service. However we also have a wheeled bin scheme in the north of the district providing fortnightly refuse collections and weekly food waste and cardboard collections.
Weekly refuse sack collections
Refuse must be presented in a non returnable refuse sack
Refuse must be presented on or adjacent to the nearest suitable point of the adopted highway
Refuse must be presented by 7am on the day of collection. Although operatives may normally attend later on in the day, if the routes need to be changed for operational reasons such as road closures, breakdowns etc, the council cannot guarantee collection of materials which were not made available from 7am. Refuse is the responsibility of the householder until the day of collection and it is an offence to deposit refuse on the highway prior to the day of collection under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and does carry a fine on conviction
If possible, please wrap any broken glass or sharp implements in newspaper as this can cause injuries to refuse collectors. It is also helpful to mark the bag to forewarn the collectors
