23/06/10: Independent chair wanted to champion the Jurassic Coast
The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site partnership is seeking an outstanding individual to become its first independent chairperson.
The post-holder will act as a champion for the Dorset and East Devon coast, England's only natural World Heritage Site, which they will be helping to safeguard for future generations.
Independent of any of the organisations and groups represented in the partnership, the chair will also be tasked with promoting the values of UNESCO's World Heritage Site designation, awarded in 2001.
The site's Steering Group is looking for someone with experience of collaborative working at a senior level who can play a crucial role in helping the partnership deliver its and the UK's obligation to UNESCO.
Prospective candidates for this voluntary post should be committed to the values of World Heritage and have expertise that can help deliver the aims of the site's Management Plan. They should have excellent communications skills and experience of chairing multi-partner committees. Ideally, they should also have a knowledge of and passion for the Jurassic Coast.
Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site team leader, Sam Rose, said:
"This is a unique opportunity for someone to play a leading role in the protection, conservation and presentation of 185 million years of the Earth's history.
"The partnership's success is measured by its ability to deliver the aims of its Management Plan and the chairperson will play a key leadership and champion role in support of this."
While the post is voluntary, all appropriate expenses will be reimbursed. The closing date for applications for the role is Friday 30 July 2010.
