Liveability - North Dorset District Council
Supporting high quality public open space accessible for all in North Dorset.
What is the Liveability Fund?
In 2004, we were successful in attracting a substantial grant from the Liveability Fund for the Sustainable Communities Programme administered by the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. The bidding process was highly competitive and only three bids were selected from the South West.
We attracted a total of £3.71m. £3.3m of this was capital, to be spent on projects relating to the creation, maintenance, management and active use of 'Cleaner, Safer, Greener' public open space. Projects also needed to fit with the district's strategic priorities and the guidelines for the Liveability Fund.
Since the Liveability programme opened in 2004 it has funded around 76 projects. The programme is now closed, as all the funding has been committed, and the last few projects will have completed their spend by the end of December 2010.
It is anticipated there will be an evaluation of the impact of the Liveability programme, to be undertaken in the autumn of 2010. This will cover the period from 2004 to 2010, with many of the projects funded a few years old now and well established, so able to demonstrate an impact.
