Registering as a home childcarer

If you wish to care for children in the child's home (like a nanny), or you only wish to care for children aged over 8 years in your own home, then you can opt to join the voluntary part of the Childcare Register.

Why register if it's optional?

Parents can only claim tax credits when they use childcare that is registered either on the Early Years Register or Childcare Register. Also, registration does involve checks to demonstrate to parents that you are safe and suitable to work with children.

More details can be found on home-childcarers section of the OfSTED's website (opens in a new window)
