Legal Services
The aim of our Legal Services team is to establish a pro-active and central role in the delivery of the Council's objectives within a fair and lawful framework while demonstrating a value for money service.
Legal Services provides general legal advice and representation to the council and its committees and provides advice and assistance to officers on matters related to their individual service areas including:
- Homelessness
- Planning
- Environmental health
- Highways
- Licensing
- Council tax and housing benefits
- Harbour
- Personnel
- Leisure and tourism
Legal Officers provide advocacy services in the civil and criminal courts, inquiries and tribunals, training and guidance on new legislation and debt recovery services.
