Finding people using the Electoral Register

We often receive requests from members of the public trying to locate friends or relatives or to confirm the registration of people other than themselves. Although anybody has the right to view both the edited and full register it difficult to find an elector in the paper format without first knowing their address.

Regulation 94 of the Representation of the Peoples Regulations 2001 restricts use of the register by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and his staff to purposes connected with his or her registration duties and for the purposes of an election.

Therefore staff cannot search the register on your behalf but can help as follows:

Passing on Letters

Election Services are unable to forward a letter to any elector on behalf of a person searching for an elector.
