On-street parking
Useful advice and information about on-street parking
On-street parking is permitted so long as no restrictions are in place on that section of road; and so it does not pose any safety issues to that of other road users.
In areas where parking restrictions are in place, the appropriate restrictions are displayed, and must be adhered to by drivers. On-street parking restrictions are introduced by means of a Traffic Regulation Order.
Sometimes, inconsiderate parking on the street can be dangerous and can pose safety issues, such as at busy junctions. Issues tend to arise more often in areas where there are businesses or public facilities that have no parking provision off the street, such as shops or schools. In other situations, it can be used in towns as a controlled short-stay alternative to parking in car parks, or, residents parking schemes can be introduced in residential areas to control the levels of parking around properties.
