Are you a landlord needing advice?
We work closely with landlords to provide advice on housing standards, tenancy issues and general queries in relation to private rented accommodation.
For further information please contact your Private Sector Housing Team at your local council.
- Landlords' forum
We organise landlords' forums across Dorset to discuss current topics of interest and provide opportunities to meet other landlords and obtain advice from housing specialists.
- Landlord accreditation scheme
We have specific duties to ensure minimum standards are maintained in privately tenanted properties. As an alternative to formal action all councils across Dorset operate Accreditation Schemes to recognise landlords who provide good quality accommodation to rent.
- Enforcement Policy - enforcement of standards in housing
Our aim is to raise housing standards in Dorset by working with owners, landlords, letting agents and tenants.
- Houses in multiple occupation
If you rent out bed sits, a shared house or house converted into flats special legal provisions may apply. These properties are also known as house in multiple occupation (HMO).
- Empty Homes
Homes that stand empty are a significant wasted resource and have a huge social impact too. Councils offer a range of services and practical advice and assistance to bring them back into use.
- Energy conservation
Owner occupiers, tenants and landlords may be eligible to apply for grants to make their home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. This can also help you to reduce your carbon emissions, one main cause of climate change.
- Grants and loans
Homes that are in serious disrepair or require major adaptations can have an impact on your health and welfare.
