Recycling aerosols

Aerosol can

Aerosols, like empty deodorant, hair spray, air freshener and furniture polish cans can all be recycled as part of residents' kerbside collections.

Each year on average, the UK uses around 600 million aerosols - that's 27 cans per household. We are enthusiastic recyclers of household items, especially kitchen items, but many of us forget that bathroom items can be recycled too. Aluminium and steel used in these containers can be recycled endlessly without losing quality. It's a really effective way for households to help reduce carbon emissions, cut costs and save energy.

How to recycle your aerosols

  • Put only empty aerosols in can banks or in your kerbside recycling box

  • Do not piece or squash the cans

  • If possible remove plastic parts that come off easily such as the caps

Where you can recycle your aerosols

You can recycle your aerosols as part of your normal kerbside recycling scheme. Just put it in you green box.
