Who decides on the levels of the allowances?

All councils are required to establish an Independent Remuneration Panel consisting of at least three members who are not elected members of the county council. They produce a report setting out their recommendations for the levels of allowances which is then considered at a meeting of the full county council, who make the final decision. The council must have regard to the recommendations made by the panel when agreeing the levels of allowances.

Who are the members of the panel?

  • Don Latham (Chairman), Private Local Government Consultant

  • Alan Arnold, Director and Honorary Solicitor, Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry

  • Sue Moore, Principal of Weymouth College

When did the panel last meet?

They last met in September 2009 and their report is attached. Independent Remuneration Panel Report - September 2009 (pdf, 59kb) (opens in a new window)   This was considered by the county council at their meeting on 12 November 2009 when the recommendations were approved.
