A Building Notice is generally suited to minor building work. If you use this method we may require further information such as structural calculations to ensure proposed work complies with Building Regulations (opens in a new window) .
The Building Notice procedure is suitable for:
Small, simple single-storey extensions
Installation of boilers or other heating appliances
New chimneys or flues
Detached garages, carports or sheds not exempt from the regulations
Installation of a bathroom, shower or toilet
Insertion of insulation into cavity walls
Installation of drainage or connection to a sewer
Replacing roofing material
Internal structural alterations involving the removal of one or two walls
This method cannot be used for commercial buildings where the work would have fire safety implications. In these cases a Full Plans Application should be deposited.
Please submit the application form and fee and let your council know when you intend to start work. Once you have informed your local authority you intend to start work we will carry out site inspections to make sure it meets the technical requirements of the regulations.
