Trade recycling services in Weymouth and Portland
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council is currently developing a flexible, tailored service for recycling of paper, cardboard, glass and food waste from local businesses.
Recycling waste costs less than sending it to landfill. From September 2011 businesses are now obliged through Duty of Care legislation to make sure that the waste hierarchy (reduce, reuse, recycle) is taken into account when disposing of their waste. Weymouth and Portland are developing a fully comprehensive recycling service to help local businesses meet these new requirements, and a summary of services we currently offer are outlined below.

Paper and cardboard recycling
Recycling paper and cardboard costs you less than sending it to landfill. Compare recycling prices below:

Pre paid labels - The £1 pre-paid collection labels allow small businesses to recycle small amounts at small prices. Just flat pack your corrugated cardboard and attach a label to each bundle. Put it where our collection crew can spot it easily on the agreed collection day(s). Approximately 10 medium sized boxes make a bundle of cardboard for one label. Please tie bundles loosely to prevent them from being blown around.
Green bag 330 litre service - If you have slightly more paper and thin card (please note this service is not for corrugated card), a 300 litre service is available for £2.30 per collection of four green sacks of paper or thin cardboard.
Wheelie bin collections - If you have larger amounts of thin cardboard or paper, we can offer you a wheelie bin collection which can be cheaper and tidier than bags. Wheelie bins are available in two sizes, 660 litres and 1100 litres. See table above for prices.
Our service is flexible to suit your business. If you don't have space for a wheelie bin and need a frequent collection, we can help. We offer a seven day a week service throughout the year.

Glass recycling service
Recycling your trade glass is cheaper than landfill, and means you will be fulfilling your legal obligation to recycle your waste as set out in the Duty of Care.
We are currently able to collect mixed colours of glass bottles and jars from green 55 litre boxes up to seven days a week. These are the same size containers as those given to residents for kerbside recycling in Weymouth and Portland.
Charges are as follows:

If your business generates a high volume of recycling, please get in touch - we are continuously looking to improve our collection service and will try to accommodate any service request at a very competitive rate.

Food waste recycling service
Recycling of food waste means sending less material to landfill that produces methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Food that is collected is taken to be composted and made into soil improver.
Weymouth and Portland can offer a collection of food waste from your business in either 25 litre lockable caddies, or 120 litre brown wheeled bins. These are the same size as bins that are used by residents in Weymouth and Portland and are pictured below.
Current charges for this service are set out below. Some businesses may be eligible to pay a reduced 'Schedule 2' rate for their waste collection - for example, charity shops, caravan sites, self catering accommodation, residential hostels or residential home.

Approved paper liners can be purchased from local stockists to line your bin if you feel this is necessary (plastic bags are not permitted in the bin).
