Car parks in Weymouth and Portland

parked car

In order to meet the needs of visitors and of residents, the council provides numerous pay and display car parks and several on-street pay and display parking places.

For details of their locations and of the tariffs for their use, please refer to the Car park locations and Parking charges pages.

Some sites are suitable for short stays such as shopping trips, whilst others are ideal for longer visits. We hope that the information given will help you to select the one best suited to your needs, but please bear in mind that, particularly during the peak summer months, the town centre car parks can be very busy. Whatever the purpose of your visit, we would wish it to be a pleasurable one and we would hope that you will want to come again.

On-Street Parking

The prices and regulations which apply with regards to on-street pay and display parking (including the classes of vehicle which are permitted to park) can be found displayed on the ticket machines. When using those parking places, please take the time to read these instructions.

Car Parks

Each car park will have at least one information board setting out the rules and regulations which apply and, in the case of those to which pay and display charges apply, there will be one such board situated next to each of the ticket machines. Again, please take the time to read these, as failure to park in accordance with the car park rules can result in penalty charges being incurred.

Pay and Display Tickets

Tickets purchased are not transferable to other car parks or parking places, or to other persons.  Leave the ticket prominently displayed on your vehicle, so that the side which shows the ticket details (time, date, amount paid etc) can be easily read from outside of the vehicle. As tickets can be dislodged by gusts of wind when doors are opened or closed, it is always advisable to check that your ticket is still correctly displayed before you leave your vehicle.

All of our pay and display tickets have a perforated tear-off strip (either along the bottom, or on the right hand side) which contains a summary of the ticket's details. If you take this strip with you, it will act as your proof of purchase should the main part of the ticket be lost.

Considerate Parking

During the peak summer months the town centre car parks can be very busy and you are expected, wherever parking bays are provided, to park wholly within the bay markings.  Where pay and display charges apply, they apply to each space wholly or partly occupied by a vehicle.

With regards to car parks in Weymouth or Portland, in order to maintain traffic flows and to avoid the obstruction of parking spaces or parked vehicles, parking other than in marked parking bays (where provided), on double yellow lines or on yellow hatched areas is prohibited (this prohibition also applies to Blue Badge Holders). Additionally, some spaces may be reserved for use by specified users only (such as Blue Badge Holders or Permit Holders), these will be indicated by surface markings and/or signage.

The following conditions also apply to the use of our car parks:

Blue Badge Holders

Pay and display car park charges apply for the whole duration of your stay. Please refer to Disabled parking (Blue Badge).

Solo Motorcycles(motorcycles having no more than two wheels and having no side-car)

May park free of charge in parking bays which have been specifically designated for their use. If parked in pay and display bays, pay and display charges apply.

Minibuses

Minibuses may park on any of the car parks in the Borough.  If the wheelbase of the minibus cannot fit within one bay then multiple tickets should be purchased, one for each bay occupied.  If the vehicle is occupying more than one bay and one ticket is displayed then the amount of time purchased will be divided by the number of bays occupied.

Coaches and Lorries

Pay and display parking areas for coaches and lorries are provided in our Lodmoor and Masonic car parks and for coaches only in our Portland Bill Car Park. Coaches may also park (pay and display) on the Chesil Car Park.

Caravans
