Swanage Childrens Centre

Find out what support and activities are on offer at Swanage children's centre for parents / carers with children age under five and up to age seven where there are specific needs.

What we do

Swanage children's centre has been designed to promote healthy living and learning, using sustainable materials to create an open, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Families can use the equipment and attend activities to help develop skills in both parenting and pre-school readiness.

The centre offers a variety of activities and services including:

  • Baby groups - Health Visitor well baby clinic, stay and play sessions, breast feeding support
  • Parenting skills - the Incredible Years programme, Young parents to be course
  • Themed sessions - exploratory play, cooking, physical play
  • Adult Education - numeracy and literacy courses

We also run toddler groups at Harman's Cross and Studland village hall.

Please see the calendar of activities for Purbeck Children's Centres (pdf, 385kb) (opens in a new window) . These activities are available to all parents and carers of children under five.

Why not drop in to see what we have on offer. We would be happy to show you around.

Children's Centre Open Day-17 May 2013

Each Children's Centre in Purbeck is having an Open Day on Friday 17 May 2013. Swanage Children's Centre Open Day takes place from 1.00pm-4.00pm where anyone can drop in to meet staff and see what activities are on offer. Please see our Swanage Children's Centre Open Day poster (pdf, 434kb) (opens in a new window) for more information. We look forward to seeing you there

Additional support if you need it

For families who may need that extra little bit of help we can offer the support of one of our outreach workers who can help on a one to one basis with behaviour management, tricky eaters, parenting advice or additional needs (Early Support) and for families with English as an additional language. If you are confused about benefits, housing and maternity entitlements, returning to work or the disability living allowance we can signpost you to someone who can help. The centre offers a Citizens' Advice session for parents and carers with children under eight. Please call to book an appointment.

We are committed to safeguarding children and can offer support and advice. Find more information on safeguarding children, how we assess children who need extra support and how you can volunteer at the centre on our essential information for all children's centres web page

Location and parking

Swanage children's centre is located in Chapel Lane and covers the geographical area from Swanage to Corfe Castle, including Langton Matravers, Studland, Kimmeridge and surrounding villages. We have strong links with Wareham Children's Centre , Upton Children's Centre,  Bovington Children's Centre and Wool children's centre Outreach base which forms the Purbeck cluster. Families are welcome to attend any of the activities or groups at any of the children's centres.

There is no parking on site at Swanage, but off road parking is available in surrounding roads. Please do not use the Methodist Church car park as this is used for their activities.
