What we do
Swanage Children's Centre has been designed to promote healthy living and learning, using sustainable materials to create an open, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Families can use the equipment and attend activities to help develop skills in both parenting and pre-school readiness.
The centre offers a variety of activities and services including:
- Baby groups - Health Visitor well baby clinic, stay and play sessions, breast feeding support
- Parenting skills - the Incredible Years programme, Young parents to be course
- Themed sessions - exploratory play, cooking, physical play
- Adult Education - numeracy and literacy courses
We also run toddler groups at Harman's Cross and Studland village hall.
Please see the current calendar of activities for Purbeck Children's Centres (pdf, 422kb) (opens in a new window) . These activities are available to all parents and carers of children under five.
Included in the programme are Purbeck cluster parent drop-in sessions (pdf, 227kb) (opens in a new window) offering free advice and information on areas such as budgeting and childcare. There are also baby & child resuscitation courses (pdf, 488kb) (opens in a new window) taking place at each Purbeck Children's Centre between December 2013 to January 2014.
You can also access a twins group session at Swanage Children's Centre (pdf, 479kb) (opens in a new window) on the first Tuesday of every month.
Why not drop in to see what we have on offer. We would be happy to show you around.
Additional support if you need it
For families who may need that extra little bit of help we can offer the support of one of our outreach workers who can help on a one to one basis with behaviour management, tricky eaters, parenting advice or additional needs (Early Support) and for families with English as an additional language. If you are confused about benefits, housing and maternity entitlements, returning to work or the disability living allowance we can signpost you to someone who can help. The centre offers a Citizens' Advice session for parents and carers with children under eight. Please call to book an appointment.
We are committed to safeguarding children and can offer support and advice. Find more information on safeguarding children, how we assess children who need extra support and how you can volunteer at the centre on our essential information for all Children's Centres web page
