Wimborne Childrens Centre

The Wimborne Children's Centre supports families with children aged under 5 years and for children up to the age of 7 where there are specific needs. Find out what support is available and when are activities our running.

What we do

The Wimborne Children's Centre is run by Action for Children, one of the leading childcare charities, who work in partnership with Dorset Sure Start and other agencies to provide services to families in the local community.

We prove various activities for children from 0 to 5 years old and support for their families such as:

  • A weekly stay and play session for any parent with twins
  • A monthly stay and play session for any parent with a child with special needs
  • A monthly stay and play session for childminders

Please see the calendar of activities for East Dorset Children's Centres (pdf, 215kb) (opens in a new window) .

See our May Half Term calendar of activities for East Dorset Children's Centres (pdf, 326kb) (opens in a new window) .

We work very closely with our local health visitors and community nursery nurses who run the following groups from the centre:

  • A weekly breastfeeding support group run in partnership with breastfeeding peer supporters
  • A weekly baby clinic
  • Regular post natal sessions
  • Regular development check appointments

We are committed to safeguarding children and can offer support and advice. Find more information on safeguarding children, how we assess children who need extra support and how you can volunteer at the centre on our essential information for all children's centres web page.

Location and area covered

We cover the areas of Wimborne, Colehill and Holt. Our new purpose built Centre at Leigh Park is situated next to the Rugby Club at the end of Gordon Road (off the B3073 Leigh Road). We have a people carrier so can arrange transport for those who find it difficult to come to the centre.

We work very closely with Corfe Mullen Children's Centre, West Moors Children's Centre, Verwood Children's Centre and Ferndown Children's Centre, which forms the East Dorset Cluster.

Parking

There are a few spaces at the Leigh Park site, but we would encourage you not to use your car if at all possible. It is not only good for the environment, but more importantly for you and your child's health.
