Christchurch Borough Council consultations

Christchurch Borough Council believes consultation to be a vital ingredient in deciding its priorities. We are committed to openness and transparency about our decisions.

We need to ensure that our service delivery is accessible to everyone. We have talked and listened to local groups in many ways over the past few years and have undertaken many formal and informal consultations with residents, residents associations, partners and other stakeholders, on wide ranging issues.

Consultation has helped us with the following:

  • The introduction of kerbside recycling following consistent messages from residents

  • The consultation with businesses regarding town centre events and whether they should continue

  • The establishment of a one-stop-shop for council services at the Civic Offices

  • Drafting the Community Plan to ensure it reflected the main issues facing the borough

Our consultation is governed by our Public Consultation Strategy, adopted in 1999. Irrespective of the nature of the consultation we endeavour to use best practice which may include using external contractors when appropriate.

Visit the Consultation Tracker to view consultations and the results of consultations from 2008 to the present time.

Core Strategy - ongoing evidence gathering and consultation

Christchurch Borough Council and East Dorset District Council are working together to produce the Core Strategy, one of the most fundamental documents which will form the Local Development Framework (a replacement for the current Local Plans). The Core Strategy will provide the general framework for development within Christchurch Borough and East Dorset District and all other Local Development Documents will have to conform to it.

The councils are currently gathering evidence to inform future planning policies within the Core Strategy and are committed to consulting regularly with key stakeholders, residents, local organisations and other interested parties. Please visit the Christchurch Local Development Framework page for more information about how to get involved.
