Planning Purbeck's Future - The Core Strategy
The Core Strategy sets out the strategic vision and policies for Purbeck for the period 2006-2027. Once adopted it will replace the Purbeck District Local Plan Final Edition (2004) and be used to guide new development and determine planning applications. It includes proposals for settlement extensions at Bere Regis, Bovington, Lytchett Matravers, Swanage, Upton and Wareham.
Following 5 years work, the Core Strategy Pre-Submission draft was published for comment in November 2010. 134 representations were received and these will be passed to an independent Inspector who will hold an examination in early 2012. As a result of the comments, the Council has amended the Core Strategy and will publish "Proposed Changes to the Pre-Submission Core Strategy" for comment from 1 September to 13 October 2011. Representations received will again be forwarded to the Inspector for the examination. It is expected that the Core Strategy will be submitted for examination in November 2011, with examination in February 2012 and adoption in June 2012. The exact timing is dependent upon the enactment of the Localism Bill, as there are clear benefits for the Council to wait for the Bill to become law.
