Surgeries

My surgeries started in September (please see the photo at the top of the page), I feel it's important to keep in touch with residents and to know what the problems in the area are.  During the rest of this year I would like to start street surgeries.  It's not always convenient for residents to come to a surgery and this would be a good way of covering all the areas of Chickerell, as we are quite spread out.

I am always happy to meet residents in their homes if this is more convenient.

A snapshot of a West Dorset District Councillor in Chickerell

I have finished my induction as a new councillor.  It has been a hectic time with training sessions ranging from ethical conduct to housing challenges within the District.  The sessions have given me an overview of the work of the council and will help me find the information I will need to be an effective ward councillor for Chickerell.

  • I have been appointed to the Efficiency Scrutiny and Licensing committees
  • We have 23 member training sessions during the year to May. I have listed the ones I am attending below. The programme is  full and varied but obviously it's not possible to attend every one. I hope to attend about half of them
  • In my pigeon hole I found a "Certificate of Attendance - Ward and Case Work" awarded by South West Employees as I have attended and successfully completed the above course with sections on The Community Leadership Role, Ward Working and Managing Casework. My first certificate!
  • My surgery in the Victory Hall was busy, with residents raising various concerns including weeds, hedges and water (see the photograph above)
  • I am using the new Park and Ride bus to get to council meetings, it is a very efficient service but does take a bit longer to get to Dorchester than driving directly
  • I have been invited to visit the UK's first mixed tenure co-housing project at the Threshold Centre in Gillingham. I think this is an important development in housing due to the economic situation.  I will report after my visit
  • attended the July and September Executive meetings. They are informative, useful and open to the public
