Dead animal removal

Advice on how to deal with dead animal removal.

Pets, farm animals and  beached animals

Report a dead animal in Dorset online

Where animals have been run over or dumped in areas such as public land or highways, you can report a dead animal online (opens in a new window) to your council who will deal with them directly.

Large animals on the highway should be reported to the Dorset Waste Partnership. If the animals are on district/borough council land it is their responsibility to arrange collection.

Whales, seals, and similar on beaches

Residents should contact their local district/borough council for advice or removal.

On private land the landowner is responsible for disposal, though this may be arranged by your district or borough council.

Any whale, porpoise or dolphin carcass should be reported to the Receiver of Wrecks by the finder. This can be done through the local coastguard (opens in a new window) .

Pets

For disposal of domestic pets, you should contact your vet.

Where an unidentified domestic animal carcass, for example a stray cat, is found, this should be reported online (opens in a new window) .

Some district/borough councils have details of local missing pet services.
