Arts Education - DepARTure Arts

DepARTure is the county council's arts-in-education agency, based in the Learning and School Improvement section of Children's Services. DepARTure is a partner of the South West Arts Education Partnership.

We are here for you!

  • Teacher

  • Pupil

  • Artist

  • Venue

Here at DepARTure Arts, we want to encourage schools to experience as wide a range of arts projects as possible because we know there are positive benefits for pupils, teachers, governors and parents.  Other areas of the curriculum improve once children are given the opportunity to explore their creativity.

DepARTure can offer a wide range of services all designed to help you make the most of your work whether you are a teacher planning a workshop, a pupil looking for additional arts opportunities, an artist wishing to work within a school environment or a venue keen to forge links with local schools.

Some (but by no means all) of the services offered by DepARTure:

  • Supporting and initiating projects

  • Help with fundraising

  • Evaluation and monitoring

  • Providing resources and training

  • Giving advice and support for arts activity

  • Offering networking opportunities

By working within Dorset County Council, DepARTure Arts has strong links to schools across the county and can collaborate with other areas linking to the curriculum - a recent project involving the Jurassic Coast Team is detailed below.

This collaborative work extends to advice and support available outside the county giving you a network of up to date information which includes:

  • Writing an arts policy

  • Project planning

  • Budgeting the project

  • Selecting your artist

  • Writing a contract

  • Health & safety

  • Fundraising

  • Evaluating a project

  • Rules & tips to communicate with press and media

  • Working as an artist in education

  • Curriculum advice

DepARTure works closely with the Arts and Cultural Development Officers in the county. Visit their web pages for more information about opportunities and activities.

You can keep up to date with work across the county through DepARTure's termly newsletter - DepARTure Times Summer 2010 [409kb] (opens in a new window); (This is a large file and may take time to download) previous issues are available on the right hand side.  We're always keen to feature your work so drop us a line with your project information - you could feature in the next edition!

If you have a project in mind or wouldn't mind a project, we want to hear from you.
