Recycling - part of the new Dorset collection service
Recycling makes the best use of our natural resources by preventing virgin materials from being used. By collecting more recyclable materials in Dorset, we will reduce disposal costs and our impact on the environment.
The greatest environmental benefit is achieved if materials can be recycled back into the same product, for example, recycling glass into new bottles and jars. If the material is of lower quality or contaminated then it may not be possible to reprocess it back into its original form.
About the new recycling service
As part of the new waste collection service you will be able to recycle the following materials at the kerbside:
- Aerosols
- All card except drinks cartons
- Glass bottles and jars
- Household batteries
- Paper
- Plastic bottles
- Tins and cans
You will receive a 240-litre wheeled bin to put your paper, card, plastic bottles and tins and cans for recycling in. Glass bottles and jars will be collected separately in a 55-litre box.
To recycle batteries you will also receive a small reusable bag, which you should place on top of your recycling box when putting it out for collection.
You will put your wheeled bin, recycling box and battery recycling bag out for collection at the kerbside every fortnight.
