Dropped kerbs
Dropped kerbs can be installed to assist in gaining access to property. You do need to get permission from Dorset Highways, as the Highway Authority, and planning permission may also be required.
You may download an
application form (pdf, 28kb) (opens in a new window)
which then needs to be sent to Dorset Highways, along with the licence fee, for approval before work starts. If you would like to speak to someone, or have the form sent to you by post then please contact Dorset Direct.
Cost
There is a non-returnable licence fee of £36.75. Construction costs for the installation of a dropped kerb may be in the order of £1,000 and any work must be carried out by a contractor suitably accredited for working in the highway.
Planning
A planning application must also be submitted to your local district council for all accesses onto classified roads and also for works in conservation areas. The planning applications page gives guidance on when permission is required but if in any doubt please contact your local planning office.
Planning permission from your district council may cost in the region of £95. Once this has been agreed, and the licence issued, you can proceed to arrange the construction.
