Why we regulate and enforce.
If we are to maintain a good quality of life in West Dorset, the district council must undertake a range of specific enforcement activities in services such as Planning, Health and Safety, Building Regulation, Licensing and Benefits. Although it is the responsibility of individuals and businesses to comply with the law, the district council must sometimes intervene in the interest of the wider community. Responsible businesses, in particular, value the level playing field that this creates.
