Guidance and application form for event organisers

Float at Shaftesbury Carnival

If you are planning an event to be held on the highway which is bigger than a street party, such as a carnival or street fair, there are a number of issues to be considered.

A range of  guidance (pdf, 267kb) (opens in a new window) is available for event organisers.  Please note a minimum of three months notice is required to hold an event.  If you are unsure if a road closure is required and would like advice then please contact the Roadspace Management Team

Further information and guidance can be found in the  Home Office's Good Practice Safety Guide (opens in a new window) and the  Health and Safety Executive's Event Safety Guide (opens in a new window) available from HSE Books (code HSG195).

Different types of Licence requirements

Other types of licences may also be required for an event, selling of alcohol for example. Further information on licences can be found at licences, permits and registration.
