Our online family history guide includes:

The Dorset History Centre only holds records and books relating to the history of Dorset (although our Ancestry Library Edition allows you to view certain records for other parts of the country).
However this guide will be relevant wherever you ancestors lived! You can find the relevant record office for other parts of the UK by using the

Family history at the Dorset History Centre
The Dorset History Centre holds key sources for family history. We are always happy to help, so whether you are a family history beginner looking for pointers on where to start, or an experienced researcher who has got stuck with a particular problem, why not contact us?
We also offer talks on family history research - both general introductions and guides to particulars types of records.
If you are not able to visit us in person, we also offer a research service where a member of staff can undertake research on your behalf.
Family history societies
There are also two family history societies operating in Dorset. These groups organise talks and events and allow members to share information and advice.
