Food digesters

Food digesters are an innovative natural alternative to throwing food waste away in the household rubbish. They allow residents to keep their bins clean, dry and odour free, while also helping the environment by reducing the household's carbon footprint.

The Principles of the Food Digester

Sitting in the garden, a food digester converts all cooked and uncooked food - including meat and bones - into a tiny, harmless soil nutrient that slowly seeps into the surrounding soil.

It uses energy from the sun and moisture from food to digest the contents and needs to be dug into a sunny spot in a well drained garden.

It is safe for people and pets, and does not attract pests such as flies or rats.

Why buy a Food Digester?

As well as helping the householder deal with food waste in an effective way, food digesters help the environment by reducing the amount that is sent to landfill sites.

Food waste in landfill sites causes methane - a greenhouse gas 20 times more powerful than Carbon Dioxide.
