Future of waste
In June 2009 Dorset councils published a joint strategy to guide the way they deal with waste over the next 25 years.
The
Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy (pdf, 678kb) (opens in a new window)
presents a brand new vision for waste management in Dorset. It is the result of local councils working closely together and follows wide-ranging public consultation. The new strategy is based on the most efficient, environmentally friendly and cost effective methods available and addresses everything from recycling and waste reduction to modern disposal options.
Dorset councils had to review the joint waste strategy 2003 after five years. It follows a new
national waste strategy (pdf, 1Mb) (opens in a new window)
. There are also other reasons for reviewing the waste strategy.
The new waste strategy has been produced in partnership between Christchurch Borough Council, Dorset County Council, East Dorset District Council, North Dorset District Council , Purbeck District Council, West Dorset District Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.
The new waste strategy is accompanied by a series of background reports, including a full sustainability appraisal (including a strategic environmental assessment) which is a combined assessment of environmental, social and economic issues, to ensure the strategy promotes sustainable development.
For a hard copy of the waste strategy please call 01305 225002 or write to Waste Management, Dorset County Council, County Hall, Dorchester, DT1 1XJ.
