Become a Bus Buddy!
Volunteers are needed to help people with learning difficulties to travel independently.
The new initiative will be helping people with learning difficulties to learn how to use busses to get around, building their independence and confidence.
What does the training involve?
Those who have previously relied on a taxi service will be trained to use public transport, and we're looking for volunteers to take those first few journeys alongside them in order to help them build their confidence as they try out their new skills.
The training will include how to catch a bus, how to keep tickets safe, road safety, what to do when the bus is late, and more.
Volunteers wanted
The service will be trailed in Weymouth and Christchurch so volunteers are needed in those areas.
Volunteers will be registered with the Dorset Volunteer Bureau where they will get CRB checks, and they'll meet with the people they'll accompany on journeys and build friendships whilst they're being trained.
To register an interest please contact Dorset Volunteer Bureau on 01305 269214 or info@volunteeringdorset.org.uk.
