West Bay Coastal Defence and Harbour Improvement Scheme
A major £17m scheme to protect West Bay from flooding from the sea and allow better access to the harbour has recently been completed and was opened by the Duke of York on 8 March 2005.
The works included:
- Building a new Western Pier with rock armour protection
- Demolishing the majority of the existing western pier
- Strengthening the existing eastern pier
- Providing new rock groynes and beach replenishment
- Building a new slipway
