Selling to Dorset councils

Whether you call it selling, purchasing, procurement, contracting or tendering, these pages are designed to guide you through the opportunities that exist for doing business with the County Council and the six borough and district councils across Dorset.

Since 1 April 2010, Dorset Procurement (DP) is managing a Joint Procurement Service on behalf of the county council and all the six borough and district councils across Dorset, which includes:

  • Christchurch Borough Council

  • East Dorset District Council

  • North Dorset District Council

  • Purbeck District Council

  • West Dorset District Council

  • Weymouth & Portland Borough Council

Download the Selling to Dorset County Council booklet opposite.  It is a guide for suppliers interested in supplying goods, services or undertaking works contracts for Dorset County Council.  For further information refer to the government website called Business Link, a free resource to help organisations win public sector contracts.  Access the website through 'Related Links' on the right hand side of the page.

We wish to develop effective relationships with suppliers/providers, both large and small, private and voluntary and the development of the local supply chain is fundamental to achieving our objectives in respect of strengthening our communities.

The County Council has adopted a Concordat as a guide to the way in which it does business with small / medium enterprises.  The full document can be accessed in 'downloads' on this page.  We have also produced a 3rd Sector Commissioning and Framework guidance document which can also be accessed by clicking on the link under 'downloads'.

To help potential suppliers/contractors find out about our contracts and tendering procedures the following explains how to tender for contracts, the restrictions we work under and what is expected of you when undertaking work for the council.

DP lets contracts for a wide range of goods and services for the county council but also uses many of the contract arrangements organised by the Central Buying Consortium (CBC) of which Dorset County Council is a member.

In addition there are other collaborative arrangements that the County Council is able to take advantage of including arrangements made by other local authorities or Central Government agencies e.g. Office of Government Commerce (OGC).
