Meals on wheels
We provide approximately 45,000 meals to around 300 service users' homes every year.
The recipients are generally living in their own homes, are elderly or have a disability and cannot provide a hot meal for themselves and cannot be provided with one in any other way.
The meals are frozen, individual meals reheated within Adult and Community Services establishments or other kitchens and then delivered hot to the door. A few however, where need necessitates and recipients are more able, are delivered frozen and the recipient reheats the meals as and when required.
Some 99% of the meals are delivered by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) (opens in a new window), though a few are delivered by community support workers. Through its voluntary work (opens in a new window) WRVS aims to give older people (opens in a new window) the opportunity and choice to get more out of life.
