Scores on the Doors

Publishing food safety and hygiene risk ratings in West Dorset.

Our environmental health officers routinely inspect all food businesses, checking that they meet national hygiene and food safety standards. The inspections happen every six months to three years, depending on the type of business and how it is managed.

Each inspection results in a risk-rating. These are converted to star awards and are published - together with an explanation of what they mean - on a rolling and ongoing basis.

As the scheme begins, all premises inspected within the previous six months will be displayed and the Scores on the Doors (opens in a new window) database will build to eventually cover all registered food premises. We hope that this information will allow food buyers and consumers to make informed choices, as well as further raising the good standards of food safety experienced in the majority of food businesses.

In the United Kingdom the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations came into force on 1 January 2005. Apart from certain exemptions relating to public security, privacy of the individual and the like, the general principle is to give citizens the right to access information held by public authorities.
