Dorset Music Service

Dorset Music Service (DMS) is committed to providing all kinds of instrument playing and musical opportunities at the highest practicable level, to as many young people in the county as possible.

Dorset Music Service is the main provider of musical tuition within Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth Schools and also runs county groups, ensembles and music centres. It organises and helps fund community and special projects through Wider Opportunities and SoundStorm.

County Group auditions

The auditions for membership of a County Group for the 2009/10 season have now taken place. However, there may still be spaces in some groups on particular instruments, so if you are interested in joining a group please visit the county groups page to download an application form, and send it in to the DMS office as soon as possible. You will then be contacted to arrange a late audition.

'Hip Hop, Be Bop and all that Jazz!' - Lighthouse, Poole's Centre for the Arts

Thursday 11 February 2010 at 7.30pm

A truly exhilarating musical journey listening to music from other cultures, now heard daily across the United Kingdom. Where did it come from? how did it start? where will it end? - hopefully all will be explained on the 11 February 2010 when some of our county groups and dancers will perform their repertoire to explore the African American culture with some Cuba thrown in!

Music centres
The Music Service currently runs two music centres, one in the east and one in the west of Dorset.
Soundstorm
SoundStorm at Dorset Music Service provides the opportunity for young people to explore their creative talents and enrich their lives through music while celebrating the diversity of music forms and makers.
Musical instrument hire
Instrumental tuition
An experienced team of teachers offer instrumental tuition to school children across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole in partnership with both the local authority and a number of independent schools.
County groups
Dorset Music Service (DMS) runs seven county-wide groups and ensembles.
Instrument Hire
The Music Service has a limited number of instruments that we are able to offer to students learning through the Service at a small hire charge to cover the repairs, administration etc.
Instrument(s) For Sale
Instruments owned by the Dorset Music Service are not available for secondhand purchase but we are occasionally informed of instruments for sale. Please note that we have not examined or viewed the instrument(s) and items are being sold independently of the Dorset Music Service.
