Visiting the Dorset History Centre

Anyone can visit the Dorset History Centre to carry out research, free of charge.
We do not operate a booking system, although we suggest you check our collections pages or contact us before you visit to make sure that we have the sources you need.

CARN cards
The Dorset History Centre is part of the County Archive Research Network (CARN). All visitors will need to show a CARN reader's ticket to make full use of the sources held at the Dorset History Centre.

Disabled access
All the public rooms at the Dorset History Centre, including the search room, are situated on the ground floor with level access from outside via automatic doors.

Refreshment facilities
Our public common room has facilities for making tea and coffee and space to eat a packed lunch, take a break or chat to other visitors.
