Visiting the Dorset History Centre
Anyone can visit the Dorset History Centre to carry out research in the records - free of charge. We do not operate a booking system, although we suggest you contact us before you visit to make sure that we have the sources you need.

Opening hours
We are closed on all public holidays and the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Day.

Please note that last requests for viewing documents in our searchroom should be made before 4.30pm on Tuesdays-Fridays, or 4pm on Saturdays.

Disabled access
All the public rooms at the Dorset History Centre, including the search room, are situated on the ground floor with level access from outside via automatic doors.

Readers' tickets
The Dorset History Centre is part of the County Archive Research Network (CARN). All visitors will need to show a CARN readers' ticket to make full use of the sources held at the Dorset History Centre.

Our public common room has facilities for making tea and coffee and space to eat a packed lunch, take a break or chat to other visitors.
