Kerbside recycling in Christchurch

Recycling collections are on a fortnightly basis.

Christchurch residents are provided with a 55 litre green recycling box for their recycling. If you do not have a recycling box then see how to get a box.

What can you put in your box?

Please put in:

  • Newspapers

  • Magazines

  • Junk mail

  • Envelopes

  • Greeting cards

  • Wrapping paper (paper only, no foil) 

  • Catalogues and telephone directories

  • Office notepaper

  • Unbroken glass bottles and jars (all colours)

  • Food tins and drink cans

  • Aerosol cans (i.e. polish, air freshener)

  • Batteries (New for 2010. More information on how to recycle batteries is now available)

Please do not put in:

  • Plastics (including bottles, containers or bags)

  • Drink and milk cartons

  • Cardboard (including cereal boxes, cardboard packaging etc)

  • Window, Pyrex or drinking glasses

Further information

Recycling boxes should be placed at the kerbside by 7am on the day of collection. Please ensure your box is clearly visible at the kerbside but not obstructing the public footpath/highway.

When do I put my recycling out for collection?

Recycling calendars for 2010 have already been produced and delivered. If you did not receive a calendar or are a new resident to the borough, then please contact us or a printable version is available on the right of this page.

If you are unsure which day your recycling collection takes place on, then please look up your road name on the right of this page, or contact us to find out.

Bank Holiday Collections

There will be no collection of recycling on the 3 and 31 May 2010. Extra recycling will be collected on the 17 May 2010 and 14 June 2010.

Has your box been missed?

If you have a missed box and the contractor does not leave you a note explaining why, please call the missed box hotline on (01202) 495000 and we will arrange for the box to be collected the next working day or same day if phoned through by mid-day.

How to get a box?

If you do not have a box or your box is damaged then you can collect one free of charge from the Civic Offices. If you require additional boxes they can be obtained from the Civic Offices at a cost of £3.50 per box. There is a maximum of three boxes per household. If you are unable to collect from the Civic Offices please contact us and we will arrange for a box to be delivered.

Recycling banks 

The materials not included in the kerbside collection scheme can be taken to anyone of the 11 mini recycling centres in the borough, or alternatively taken to the household recycling centre.
