Report obstructions on the road or pavement

Find out how to report issues of obstruction, hazards and risks to motorists and pedestrians on the road and pavement, and who to contact

Hazards or risks we are responsible for

  • Gully or drain cover missing

  • Wall exposing a large drop to the rear on either the pavement or road

  • Pedestrian guard railing protruding into the pavement or road

  • Fencing protruding into the pavement or road

  • Concrete bollard knocked over onto the pavement or road

  • Inspection covers missing or damaged

  • Bridge parapets damaged

  • Oil spillages on the road

  • Lamp columns knocked down, wires exposed or lanterns hanging loose

  • Road traffic bollards knocked down or broken

  • Sign poles knocked down or sign plates hanging loose

  • Traffic signals not working or traffic light head broken or hanging loose

  • Dead animal removal

  • Vehicles parked obstructing dropped kerbs (including private driveways), and vehicles parked illegally in restricted areas on the public highway

We need to know about this kind of risk as soon as possible so please report them to us.

We are not responsible for the following:

  • Inspection covers in the pavement or road for example; stop taps, fire hydrants, manholes and valve boxes

  • Walls built for non-highway purposes

  • Cellar covers

  • British Telecom or cable cabinets

  • Vehicles obstructing the carriageway/pavement - blocking the passage for moving vehicles/pedestrians (call Dorset Police on '101')
