Dorset Energy Group

The Dorset Energy Group (DEG) is the body that co-ordinates and monitors the delivery of the key actions laid out in the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Renewable Energy Strategy and the new Energy Efficiency Strategy.

DEG will be accountable and will report on progress, at least on an annual basis to the local strategic partnerships (via their environmental theme groups or equivalent) of Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole.  Individual members are responsible for reporting progress to their own organisations as they deem necessary.

The objectives of the Executive Group are as follows:

  • To co-ordinate, guide and support the implementation of the strategies in conjunction with key partners

  • To establish working groups as required to progress the strategies and to oversee their operation

  • To review and monitor the overall progress of the strategies and the achievement of their aims and action plans

  • To accommodate new requirements resulting in changes in by national, regional and local policies concerning sustainable energy

  • To organise an annual conference or other appropriate means of engagement with all key stakeholders

  • To agree and monitor the annual work programme of the Renewable Energy Development Officer, Energy Efficiency Development Officer and other staff that may be appointed

  • To organise a briefing of all councillors in Dorset, at least annually

The DEG Executive has a core membership of 25 members including representatives from each of the nine local authorities in Dorset as well other stakeholders from across the public, private and community sectors. The DEG Executive has agreed Terms of Reference.

The priority areas identified in the two strategies are taken forward by six working groups as follows:

Each working group is responsible for developing and implementing annual action plans.

  • Community Sustainable Energy Conference 17th April 2010

    The Dorset Energy Group held a successful Community Sustainable Energy Conference in the Dorford Centre, Dorchester, on Saturday 17th April 2010, which was attended by 50 people.

  • Domestic sustainable energy group

    The Dorset Energy Group Domestic Sustainable Energy Working Group was established to deliver the priority areas for action related to the domestic sector in the Bournemouth, Dorset, and Poole Renewable Energy Strategy (2005) and Energy Efficiency Strategy and Action Plan (2009).
