Reorganisation of Purbeck schools
A review of educational provision in the Purbeck area took place over the last couple of years. The key purpose was to create a school system which is more efficient, effective and fit for purpose, enabling all children and young people to achieve high standards.
Update on progress
Following a lengthy consultation period and adjudication, the decision was made to move the area from the existing three tier system (first/middle/upper) to a two tier system (primary/secondary). This project is in its final phase.
Schools started to change in September 2012 when the current first schools retained Year 5 children. in September 2013 the first schools will retain Year 6 children as well, the middle schools will have closed and the secondary schools will operate with children from Year 7. See further details on
how each year group will be affected. (pdf, 10kb) (opens in a new window)
Officers are continuing to work with schools, in partnership with Church of England and Roman Catholic dioceses, to make improvements to the school buildings. Some early building works have already been completed and many of the schools have now completed the feasibility stage of their projects.
The training of school staff and the HR processes are now entering their final phases.
