09/09/09: Traffic lights on Ridgeway for one week

Motorists are being given advance warning of roadworks near Ridgeway Hill, Weymouth, so they can plan for some disruption to their journeys.

From Monday 14 September 2009, for one week, temporary traffic lights will be in place near the Swallows Rest Bed and Breakfast on the A354.

The lights are needed while a BT cable is diverted away from the line of the Weymouth Relief Road.

Dorset County Council Head of Highways Andy Ackerman said:

"We're very lucky that the construction of the relief road is away from the main road and has so far caused little disruption to motorists.

"The work to divert utilities has largely been completed but for this element, on a main road, it is necessary for lights to manage the traffic."

The temporary lights on Ridgeway will be monitored to ensure the flow of traffic is not severely interrupted.

In Littlemoor, temporary traffic lights are being installed on the diversionary road.

These will start to be used the week commencing Monday 14 September 2009.

They will allow trucks to safely cross the diversionary road and travel along the line of the relief road, avoiding the main Dorchester Road, to move earth material from Ridgeway to the Lodmoor end of the scheme.
