27/10/09: Night work on railway bridge
Residents will soon notice night time activity near Manor Roundabout in Weymouth, when railway bridge beams will be lifted into place.
Night work will start on Monday 2 November and it will take several nights to get all of the beams into place.
Dorset County Council Head of Highways Andy Ackerman said:
"Lifting the beams over the railway marks another major step towards completion of the long awaited Weymouth Relief Road.
"For safety reasons, Network Rail will only permit the pre-cast concrete beams to be lifted into place at night, when the railway line is not in use and the power can be switched off.
"Lights will be positioned to minimise nuisance to local residents, but light from the works is likely to be visible from properties in Greenway Close. There will also be some noise.
"We hope that residents will understand that the beams can't be lifted over the railway line during the day and will bear with us while we get the job done."
To date there have been no night time works at the southern end of the Weymouth Relief Road construction site.
During October and November, Skanska was granted a temporary extension of normal working hours to include weekend work in this area to ensure that all necessary work was finished before the railway possession dates.
