10/11/09: Night work finishes early
Night work to put in beams for the Weymouth Relief Road Manor Railway Bridge has finished a week early.
Despite poor weather conditions last week, construction work finished in the early hours of Friday 6 November 2009.
The 22 beams needed for the bridge were put in place in just four nights. There is now a safe working surface over the railway line for work on the deck of the bridge to start.
Dorset County Council strategic projects manager Matthew Piles said:
"Work on the new Manor Railway Bridge went very well last week.
"Residents were notified of two weeks of night works. The second week, which was a contingency against delays, is now not needed.
"Although there were some concerns that noise from the works would be overheard from nearby properties, we didn't receive any complaints and we'd like to thank local residents for their patience."
No further night works will be required on the Weymouth Relief Road Manor Railway Bridge this year. Some night working will be needed early next year to build the parapets.
