Love food hate waste
The local authorities in Dorset are supporting a national Love Food Hate Waste Campaign, encouraging residents to reduce their food waste and save money.
Love Food Hate Waste is the 'Waste Not Want Not' of the modern day, providing recipes for using up leftovers and handy tips and advice to help all of us waste less food.
Reducing food waste is a major issue. We throw away 8.3 million tonnes of food from our homes every year in the UK
It's not just about good food going to waste either; wasting food costs the average family with children £680 a year, or £50 a month, and has serious environmental implications too. If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the CO2 impact would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 4 cars off the road.
Valentine Warner, well known for his TV work on programmes such as "What to eat now" and "Ration Book Britain", is supporting our Love Food Hate Waste campaign.
"He said: "Love Food Hate Waste is a really effective campaign to help people throw less food away and save money"
"I'm always shocked at how much food is wasted and this must cost families a lot of money. The website is full of incredibly useful advice to help reduce food waste and it even has an impressive range of recipes to give people ideas for using up their leftovers."
