Dorset County Council has submitted a bid to Tranche 2 of the Department for Transport's Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).

The Bid covers the period 2012-2015 and is seeking £3.059m from the LSTF, out of a total package bid cost of £6.196m, for the " Weymouth-Dorchester Corridor". (pdf, 4Mb) (opens in a new window)

The package builds upon improvements delivered through the Weymouth Relief Road and the Weymouth Transport Package through improvements in public transport and supporting greater use of active travel modes.

The purpose of the bid is to support economic growth by removing the transport barriers to businesses in the area and improving accessibility for those without access to a car. Reducing carbon emissions from transport is also a key aim.

Measures included in the bid are:

  • A limited stop express bus service between the two towns calling at Mount Pleasant Park & Ride and Littlemoor, with alternate services direct to the Granby Estate

  • Completion of missing links in the Weymouth and Dorchester cycle network

  • Real Time Passenger Information in Dorchester

  • VMS and Car Parking Guidance Systems

  • Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points in Dorchester

  • A new Dorset Flexicars Car Club for Weymouth

  • Community Travel Hubs, Clubs and Champions

  • Travel Planning and marketing initiatives to promote public transport, car sharing, walking & cycling

Partners to the bid include a range of businesses and local community groups. The bid can be downloaded here. (pdf, 4Mb) (opens in a new window)

We will learn the outcome of the bid in June 2012. If successful, £3.059m will be invested in the area up to March 2015 with a wide range of benefits for local people, business and visitors to Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester.
