Dorset Music Service

Dorset Music Service is the main provider of musical tuition within Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth Schools and also runs county groups, ensembles and music hubs. It is committed to providing all kinds of instrument playing and musical opportunities at the highest practicable level, to as many young people in the county as possible.

Making music is an amazing experience, and it also gives us so much more. It helps us to develop our learning and listening skills, work with other people, express our ideas, explore our creativity, think differently and improve our confidence and self-esteem. It can, quite literally, change lives.

We think music is important, and as the County Council's Music Service, we are here to help people in Dorset - particularly children and young people - to learn, share and enjoy music-making.

We do this by providing:

County groups
Membership of a County Group gives you the opportunity to play with other talented musicians, play large scale pieces, perform at a variety of venues and experience professional playing.
Music in Schools 2011/12
Dorset Music Service is working in partnership with schools to develop access to music provision across the county.
Instrumental tuition
Lessons in primary, secondary, special and independent schools, organised through schools and provided by our team of experienced and enthusiastic Instructors.

Music Hubs
The Music Service provides ensemble opportunities for beginning musicians in music hubs across the county in host schools. These ensembles are tailored to locality needs and are open to all musical abilities.
