Performance at Christchurch Borough Council
Councils have a responsibility to ensure that they provide services which meet local needs and provide value for money. Effectively managing performance is important because it identifies and encourages improvement and shows local people how the council is tackling the key challenges facing the area.
Performance indicators provide information on whether important local services are improving and providing value for money. A Single Data List (SDL) is used by all councils to measure improvements in services appropriate to the area. Some of these indicators apply individually to councils, others apply to groups of councils and other partners. An example of indicators which are used jointly are those concerned with crime and anti-social behaviour which are used by councils and the police.
Christchurch Borough Council supplements the use of national indicators with local performance information so that areas which are important to people in Christchurch are closely monitored.
In June of each year the Council produces an Annual Performance Statement (pdf, 579kb) (opens in a new window) which gives an overview of the Council's performance over the previous 12 months. This brings together performance indicator information together with information about key projects and initiatives either completed or in progress.
Performance Management is about good management, ensuring that Councils, Services, Teams and individual goals are achieved on time and on budget.
