Pre-Application discussions
Customers that intend to submit a planning or other related application are able to seek the informal opinion of a planning officer about the planning merits of the proposal prior to submission. Pre-application discussions can be arranged for any proposed development from simple house extensions to large scale housing developments and listed building to agricultural developments. Please see the Pre-Application Advice document on the right for more details. If you would like written advice, please fill out and return the
Pre-Application Advice Enquiry Form (pdf, 122kb) (opens in a new window)
. More information on our pre-application advice can be found here.
Planning obligations
Some applications will need to be considered under Planning obligations guidelines. On 2 February 2010, we adopted a supplementary planning document, planning obligations guidelines, on how and when planning obligations will be required for development in West Dorset.
This affects a wide range of planning applications. Broadly speaking, a proposal for an additional dwelling or non-residential development in excess of 100m2 is likely to require a financial contribution or on-site provision of a community facility. There are transitional arrangements for the majority of applications registered before 6 April 2010 and exemptions for certain types of development.
