National Information

The majority of planning applications submitted to Weymouth and Portland Borough Council are decided under delegated powers by the Development Management Service Manager. Some applications are decided by Planning and Traffic Committee and a small number of applications for minerals and waste proposals and county council development are determined by Dorset County Council. The Planning Portal (opens in a new window) is a national website which gives comprehensive information on the planning process and all planning matters. You can use this to:

  • Get advice and guidance on all aspects of the planning system

  • Submit a planning application on-line

  • Submit an planning appeal, or search for an existing appeal and submit comments on it

  • Get advice on green energy projects and energy saving

  • Get advice and guidance on Building Regulations
