Commercial waste and recycling

Information and advice for businesses about how to dispose of commercial waste safely and responsibly.

The law states that businesses must take all reasonable steps to keep waste safe. If your business gives its waste to someone else, you must be sure they are authorised to take it and can transport, recycle or dispose of it safely.

Business waste can be any materials created through commerce or industry, needing disposal, and can include materials destined for further use.

  • Waste and recycling services

There are many opportunities for businesses in Dorset to reduce and recycle their waste. This can often lead to cost savings when compared to traditional waste disposal routes.

  • Business rates and waste collection

Business rates do not include a charge for waste collection. Businesses which take their waste to a Household Recycling Centre or place it for collection by their local council's household collection service are breaking the law.
