Olympic sailing in Weymouth & Portland | London 2012 Olympic Games

Victory bus

Weymouth and Portland enjoyed an amazing summer as it hosted the sailing events of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Take a look back at some of the photos and comments and find out more about how Dorset can benefit from being an Olympic and Paralympic venue.

Thousands of first time visitors to Weymouth & Portland from around the globe enjoyed its many attractions, helped by hundreds of dedicated Ambassadors.

There was unparalleled global media coverage, with beautiful images of the borough being transmitted via television, web and print. This reached a crescendo on the opening day of the Olympic sailing with Weymouth all over the media and trending on Twitter.

The improved transport infrastructure held up very well to large numbers of visitors, including 'Super Sunday' when the town was packed to celebrate Ben Ainslie winning Gold.

Hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing has already brought many positive benefits to Dorset and we are progressing a number of opportunities to build on this in the coming years.
